As we come to the festive end of 2014, lets take a look back at what an amazing year it has been for Scouts in Chesterfield and what 2015 has in store for our Young People and Volunteers…
‘Vision 2018’ and ‘Scouting For All’ has focused heavily in the Scouting world in 2014, with The Scout Association promoting the future of Scouting and how Young People are at the forefront of change within our movement. Chesterfield District has played a massive part in this with the introduction of i.Voice (District Youth Council) in March, a group of Young People representing Troops from all corners of our District coming together to discuss what can be done to improve Scouts from the perspective of our 12-18 year olds, making decisions that are taken forward to the District Executive and back into their own groups. Young People at the forefront of Scouting, being led by a team of Explorers (ones writing this article infact…) and setting an example for the whole County to follow. This is set to continue in 2015 with the expansion of i.Voice as they will be hosting a number of Meetings, Activities and even District Events, keep a look out for their purple neckers as they will be out and about next year.
Spitewinter has undergone a transformation in 2014, all thanks to Steve and the team and the hard work of Explorers and Volunteers who attended the work days earlier this year to prepare our District Campsite for what was an amazing season, hosting events such as the Young Leader Training Weekend, Scouts Camping Competition, Training for Peak 2015 and the District Cubs Campfire to name just a few…as well as hundreds of Scout and Guide Campers from our District and beyond. We are so lucky to have such an amazing slice of Scouting heaven just on our doorstep and we look forward to visiting again in 2015.
2014 saw the introduction of Ben Widdowson as Explorer Scout Leader (Young Leaders) and what a year it has been for our 14-18 year olds taking up roles in our Beavers, Cubs and Scout Groups. Our YL Training programme has been revamped and many are on the way to completing their Missions after a successful Training Weekend in April. Many thanks to everyone who facilitates Young Leaders in our District, preparing the next generation of leaders for life as a Scout Leader or helping achieve DofE Awards and inspiring our Young People.
Thank you for the hard work and dedication of the District Teams for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in giving our Young People chances to take part in Events and Activities such as Premier Pack, Operation Round & About and the We Are The Champions Swimming Gala. 2015 is sure to be a great year for Events and Competitions, the District Teams are already preparing the calendar for next year and pondering them over mince pies no doubt!
12 Months ago, @SpireScoutMedia never existed, we wouldn’t be writing this article if it wasn’t for the introduction of the Derbyshire Scouts Media Team with Jeanette Kent as County MDM. We now have Izzie and Matt as District Media Development Managers and Sam as Administrator of the website, thank you for supporting us as we develop our media output, we are more than happy to promote a group event and you will usually see us covering events and ‘goings-on’ within the District. Email the Media Team at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
We could go on forever as it has been such a great year for Scouts in Chesterfield, but let us look at what is already planned for 2015. The coveted Golden Duck (and his aliases) is up for grabs as we celebrate a great year in Explorers on Saturday 24th January, our Jamboree Contingent will be having the time of their lives as they visit the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan and not to mention the International adventure closer to home as Peak 2015 will take Scouts, Explorers and Network on ‘a journey through time’ at Chatsworth House in July.
It is just left for us to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone on the Media Team and Chesterfield District Scouts
