Unit 12

Derbyshire Orideul

Unit 12 are known as the Derbyshire Orideul. This is Korean for Derbyshire Ducks. “Duck” is a local term of friendliness. For Koreans, Mandarin ducks represent peace and wooden ducks are often given as gifts at weddings.

Our Unit chant, Ori, Ori, Ori, (Duck, duck, duck) is boldly positioned on the badge. Scouts will chant this with the reply being Quack, Quack, Quack!

The badge reflects the UK and Korean colours and aspects of our scouting culture.

Unit 12 badges are available to purchase from Josh Bestwick via Josh.bestwick@derbyshirescouts.org at £3 per badge plus P+P. All funds raised will go towards Unit helping to ensure cost is not a barrier to the young people attending 25WSJ Korea.

Unit 12 Updates

12th October 2022
last weekend Unit 12 had a full on few days working in patrols, hiking, shelter building with the Bushcraft Support Unit, and making the most of the natural playground available to us at Gradbach Scout camp. We learnt about traditional Korean art and made unit bunting for the Jamboree, tasted crunchy critters edible insects, and cooked chocolate oranges in the embers 🔥 🍊
We also heard about Stuart’s (one of Derbyshires bush craft team members) about his experience at the 1991 Korean Jamboree experiences.
We learnt a lot about each other, including some tough conversations around effective teamwork, positive attitude, our values, punctuality and readiness for Jamboree. Ori Ori Ori!
7th July 2022
Over the last two weekends unit 11 and 12 both had fun bell boating thanks to the Derbyshire SASU. But they also did a load of team build activities and getting to know the other members in their unit
